I Can Hear Horrified Calls From Here!
So tonight I see we have had a change of the Google PageRank. I have dreaded this was coming.
I am going to turn off my computer now. Call me next month when the coast is clear to come out.

I am so tired of the "Google PageRank This, Google PageRank That" articles that are everywhere online!

Today I realized I am avoiding many posts that talk about PageRank in the title. Look at this, even I am jumping on the band wagon and writing about them. The paid links debate is bad enough, but now that Google is taking value away from sites that are using what they give us, Andy Beard explains here so I am not going into details. Google is getting out of hand with the FUD. (Fear, uncertainty and doubt, a marketing or political strategy)

I would love to see a new Page Ranking System!

There are a few companies that rank sites online, but they all try to do more than just quality ranking. I would like to see one that only ranks sites and does not try to also be a search engine or a web directory.

I know there are a few coders that read this blog, how hard would it be for one of you to make a tracking system that is hard to game?

Facebook is now valued at $15 billion

According to the Wall Street Journal article, Microsoft has now "Inked a Deal with Facebook!"

"We are pleased to take our Microsoft partnership to the next level," said Owen Van Natta, Facebook’s chief revenue officer, in a press release.

Microsoft agreed to invest $240 million for a 1.6% stake in Facebook Inc. that values the social-networking site at $15 billion.

The deal signed today is an expansion of that agreement and focuses on international versions of the Facebook service, which Facebook is now starting to open. A deal with Microsoft would allow Facebook to shift some of the burden of selling international display ads to its larger partner. Microsoft in recent years has built up a large online advertising sales force and has invested in technologies to broker advertising over the Web.

By the end of this year, Asia will account for 35% of the world’s social networking users, with 28% of users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 25% in North America, and 12% in the Caribbean and Latin America, according to research firm Datamonitor Plc.

I am surprised that the amount is so low and that the percentage was only a 1.6% stake.

Will this close out other bids for a larger share hold from Google?

Are your competitors ranking just above you in the SERPS and it looks like there is no way of catching them? Want to effectively push them out of the search engine results? Maybe you heard that Google Bowling was over. Wrong, think again.

It’s time for Google Bowling 2.0!

Google Bowling 2.0 is all about buying links for your competition. Matt Cutts has made Google Bowling very easy for you to accomplish. Matt Cutts wants you to do this! Matt Cutts is the head of Google’s anti-web-spam department. This makes him the top dog when telling Google who is using paid links to rank higher than YOU. Why not help him out? Go buy your favorite competitor a few hundred backlinks on your local newspapers website. Then send a friendly message to Google and let them know just how nasty your competitor is. Does Google still promote their "Do no evil!" slogan?

If you can’t find a good newspaper selling sitewide links, go to Digital Point Forums, there are always a few link spammers selling sitewide links there. Mention this post to receive a bulk discount!

Have fun with this endeavor as it will surely bring you success <strike>for a few days</strike>. That is till someone reports you for doing the same thing once you are now in the #1 chair. Because once you are in the Hot Seat everyone is now making you the next target.

My suggestion, go for the longtail and stay under the radar of your competition. Avoid using Negative SEO as it will only make you a person of interest. Most important of all don’t take this post too seriously.

Today is the day Google’s "Supplemental Results" have been but to death!

According to Arnold Zafra at Search Engine Journal "Starting today, Google will be removing the “supplemental labels” on the URLs of supplemental results displayed by the search engine. Since 2003, the supplemental results has provided Google with a better way of displaying more search results when it crawls websites. Through the supplemental results, Google were able to provide more search results to users even though this results were not crawled from the main index of a website. These supplemental results usually came from other pages of the websites."

I am not sure if I consider this a good thing yet.

Jim Boykin tells you a method to find if a page is in Google’s New Secret Supplemental Results. As quoted by Jim "even if Google won’t tell me outright that a page is in the Supplemental Results Index, I can still get a pretty good guess if a specific page is now in Google’s now Secret Supplemental Results Index."

So are the Supplemental Results still in effect but you can not see them?

Over the next few days I will play with the results of this site and a few others I maintain and give my input.

Til then have a good evening,
Mark
