Posted on | February 19, 2008 | 23 Comments
Tim Nash has posted a great review on what he has found on PDF’s.
I have used PDF’s for some time to get my sites indexed across multiple search engines. Today Tim Nash has let the world know his results and they are very interesting if you are creating content sites and wish to get your content indexed.
How long before we have a new company selling reviews in their PDF directory?
So let’s not waste anymore of your time, click on over to his blog and see his results on PDF’s.
Oh and while you are there be sure to subscribe to his RSS feed.

I read the article and I don’t get it. If the PDF links don’t carry much of any weight why bother?

Rumour has it there is a PDF search engine on the way. Who knows what that will have.

Great blog. It will be interesting to see a pdf search engine, not sure how it would work since pdf’s are hard to spider. But definitely heading in a good direction.

I have seen PDF’s in google results for long tail keywords on the first page of google. Is there a way to search for PDF’s on google.

I always cringe when I see .pdf results in search engines. Invariably, I’ll click one and it will turn out to be a bajillion megabytes and then I’ll be stuck waiting forever while my browsing has some kind of seizures…
He did offer an interesting perspective, though. Not many people talk about .pdfs with respect to SEO.

Thanks for highlighting that post.
I can confirm worthwhile results when using PDF’s to publish articles in this format to sites like Scribd.
I think more ‘weight’ is attached to the PDF when associated with an authority website.

llia I agree with you, great application. Its so much easier for the laymen to create a pdf and add it to the web.

If pdf links really contributed any juice, people would create viral pdf files and distribute all over the web. But Big G is always watching for all spamming tricks!

Thanks for the link! I really don’t like PDF results on google search and I avoid to click on them because they are sooo slow!

I have not always been comfortable when I get pdf results in my google search, as my feeling is that the data are never updated if they are in pdf format. But reading this makes me reconsider. Thank you.

Thanks for the link, I share the same problem as the above commentator, PDF’s nearly crash my computer when I have my usual stuff open so I avoid them usually.

I did not know that PDFs could be used to get indexed by search engines, but I can understand that PDFs are searched for just like other types of files. I wonder if is a whole branch of SEO for PDF file links.

I don’t see the point of ranking for PDF files. Its not like you can put affiliate links or ads in them to get people to click on them?

I never really thought much about pdf and search engine indexing and such. I will have to look into this better. Thanks for the thought.

I am so glad you posted this! When my programmers come in we are going to discuss adding a PDF directory and the conversion to ArticleSender, as an upscale to our basic services. We should be able to get it up in a few days.

Interesting. I am not suprised that all of the PDF’s were indexed. I am suprised that they were not ranked well. There can be a lot of content on those babies and if “content is king”, (assuming it is half-way decent), it should produce some decent rankings. Thanks for the info!

I find there to be no reason as to why search engines are treating PDF’s as good stuff rather than Web pages, look, the internet was created for internet files not PDFs, much better pages may rank below the PDF, it just doesn’t make any sense to me!

I don’t know if its just me but if I click on a result and see that it is a PDF, I usually click the back button. The guys the create the PDF files, are they just concerned about their info being copied?

I never thought that PDF’s share a good reputation with the search engines especially Google.

Interesting article, but I must say that I also hate when pdfs pop up in my SERPs. It would be cool is Google had an option to search only PDFs.
