Image is Something, But Message is Everything

First, I think it’s a pleasure to write on this search engine blog.  Writing on your own wall can be fun, but it’s a nice break to write on someone else’s wall. Search engines are a popular median and should be paid attention too. However, advertising existed before search engines and people that were in advertising 10 years ago have an advantage – and can be learned from.

Image is something, a photo can psychologically influence visitors decision making. I remember a few studies of this as well, but an image won’t do much more than that. It won’t influence the person to spread the message of your company or site.

Two friends are talking and they are discussing a site they found on the web. One says to the other, what is that site? More than likely, they will just quote your description of the site. Why should they have to think more about it, then necessary? So what is that company about? Oh, it’s a place you can save on car insurance

Your site’s description or slogan is pretty important. People don’t really want to think about where they are at, and what the purpose of the site is. Just explain it to them simple. Know your purpose, know your message, and look good. Search engines are a source of visitors. A way people can find your home on the web. If people don’t quickly understand what the site is about, then they will forget and may not return and won’t tell their friends. Give your site a purpose and know your site’s purpose.

I think this is a great message…you really should have a focus, a niche, and a purpose. What is your site about, why would I use it, and how can it be remembered…all great principles.

I agree that our main goal is to have our users know within moments what our site is about and what they should expect from it.

To push it to the next level is what do you need to do to make your site standout and want the user to want to tell their friends about?

    What is the wow factor?

You have a very good point. Your prospect has to understand exactly what you are about or else they will not stay very long. It’s the same thing with commercials on TV – they need to be clear and understood by the viewer or else they can’t do their job.

A great message indeed and hopefully it really bring across to webmasters worldwide. However, i personally felt that if one has a niche site, he/she should write his title and description targeting his target audiences. It works better this way.

Search engine optimization is everything that can be done to make a search engine send more traffic to a web site.
Usually this means defining keywords or key phrases and trying to have your web site listed first (or at least near first) for those key terms.
Search engine optimization is usually divided into two categories of tasks:
    • On-page optimization
    • Off-page optimization
On-page optimization is designing your web pages to achieve the best ratings from the search engines.
    On-page optimization activites include:
    • Writing keyword-rich text
    • Applying good ALT tags to images
    • Making sure that the web page can be properly “spidered” by all of the search engines
    • Off-page optimization consists of creating inbound links to your web page.

Just want to say that your picture remind me of a movie by Nicholas Cage and Sandra Bullock – Have you seen the ant bully?

It really reflects the movie :)

First of all the image to the blog is really very good. Relating it to a topic like that of search engines was even more of a good idea and was in itself very unique.

Niche is the key – and targeting a specific target market and defining a SPECIFIC audience for your website will bring targeted traffic – which will convert into customers.
Also, I want to point out one more thing – you have about 7 seconds to grab attention of your visitor and have them read the rest of your page or website – so be specific, to the point and have images, videos and exciting title and description.

I really believe it is a combo of many factors. You need to be visually appealing but also have a catchy slogan as well as a useful product or service. If you are missing one element you will have a harder go of it.
