Fidel Castro’s death and how it relates to SEO
PerezHilton.com was the first media outlet in the world to break the UNTRUE news of Castro’s death.
Now they are receiving thousands of backlinks from all over the world. This could be a huge form of linkbait that will make PerezHilton.com the number one source of information to get the news of Fidel Castro’s death.
If you have news such as this would you hold on to it and wait for it to become official or would you post it as soon as you are informed?
UPDATE: Fidel Castro’s death was another hoax! Or was it? What is your opinion?
So it looks like it was just linkbait put out by PerezHilton.com and I was was one of many that added links to make him rank very well for the term Fidel Castro. This brings me to the point, how one site can break a story and immediately push to the top of Google’s blog search in only a matter of hours and move into the top position in the Google main index soon after.

I agree with you and your post on my blog. I’m a journalism student and everyone knows that if we had this news we would never wait to report it. PerezHilton has definitely done linkbait and it is definitely working to his advantage. I hope he doesn’t think he’s an actual journalist though.

Well, I didn’t even know he was dead, so you scooped the news in the SEO blogging category

No, I did not scoop it as it turns out. PerezHilton.com was totaly full of it and using it only as linkbait.

Doh. That’s me being too gullible. Mind you, you have a really effective headline - it made me read your post! So that’s another marketing lesson for me.

At the time of writing the headline it was not clear if he had died or not. The local radio stations here in South Florida all were talking about it coming from a creditable source. But the point I really wanted to make is that when you have news such as this, the person that lets it out usually gets the market share from the serps.
To my surprise it came out as more of a linkbait for this site than I expected. This is a new blog and I was going to let it age a little before doing a linkbait campaign.
It is funny how I have had a few personal attacks from someone that does not get it. They seem to me that they are rather ignorant to what they read. The article is not about if Fidel Castro has really died or not, but that something like his death can effect the serps in only a few hours. But everyone has to be a newbie sometime.

Wauw, didn’t know he was dead. I think no matter what then he has done a great job under very difficult circumstances. They have better healthcare than the US for example.
